David LaChapelle

David LaChapelle works in the fields of fashion, advertising and fine art photography. Not only is LaChapelle recognized massively in the photography world, he is also widely known in directing music videos. David LaChapelle has worked with the most famous of famous celebrities. His over exaggerated imagination is emphasized within his photographs and displayed with bright colours and fantastic imagery.

Howies

For my magazine article I plan to write about ecological clothing and compare them with everyday clothing i.e. how both effect the environment differently. A key company I’ve researched is ‘Howies‘ who believes that:
“A higher quality product will invariably last longer. It will keep on performing as it was designed to for longer before it finally needs replacing. And so over its lifespan it will have consumed less valuable resources than an inferior product that will have been replaced many times.
That’s why we make the best quality products that we know how. Because ultimately the best thing we can do for the environment is to make our stuff last a real long time. The longer our products last the less impact they will have on the environment, and the bigger our smile will be.”
Howies use recycled cotton, organic cord and pledge to give 1% of our turnover or 10% of pre-tax profits (whichever is greater) to grass-root environmental and social projects.

Apple

Ok… although I love everything about Apple, their ipods, macs – even the logo, but why do they have to release new models soooooo often??? I bought an ipod nano to go on holidays during the summer, and 2 weeks later the new ipod nano came out. So annoying. But hey, thats how the cookie crumbles! Anyways, think my mum wants the new ipod touch for christmas. We saw it in Cardiff on the weekend and it is amazing – how technology has changed! Here it is anyway..

Marie O’Connor

Marie O’Connor is a designer, illustrator and fashion consultant that I have just stumbled across. She has her own amazing style, and has also developed her own shoe range for cult label Evisu. Marie O’Connor’s works are often made out of found materials and objects of little value, including fabrics, photocopied graphics, papers, buttons and cotton. Although she doesn’t have a website, I have managed to find some of her work in books and on random sites.

Hello!

Its time to start blogging! Or so I’m told! My plan here is to extend my knowledge of all thing knowledgable within design. Over the next year I aim to use my blog as an online diary to record all my experiences concerning design.

Although the theme of this semester is ‘Surviving the 21st Century’, my plan is to investigate as much as possible – relevant to both the theme and to my interests! I’m going to look, listen, see and read EVERYTHING, and plan to make a collection of ANYTHING that may be of use.

I’m looking forward to travelling this journey into knowledge and understanding, hoping creativity, inspiration and influences will give me the ability and drive to design bigger and better things!
